Gene's Barber Shop is rated 4.9 out of 5 stars, based on 77 reviews!
First time at this barber, stopped by on referral from coworkers !
It was an old time barber shop , had that feel of sports , memorabilia and back in the day .
The sounds the smells , just like going back in time to my childhood !
The owner cut my hair and styled an over grown beard .
I will be a regular customer from here on out .
Prices are good , the quality of his work is over the top !!!
Not in a hurry , making sure he's left no stone unturned ...
Thank you gene for taking the extra time to see that I was satisfied !
The minus 60 guy
Leaving a review on behalf of what I witnessed with my dad. He recently broke his right wrist and was unable to shave. I brought him here for a shave and he was thrilled with the results. The barbers are really friendly and produce great results without sacrificing efficiency. They were surprisingly busy for a Tuesday afternoon, but I think that speaks to the quality of the work done here.
Glad we stumbled upon this place and they were able to bring a smile to my dad's face. They now have a new loyal customer.
Fantastic barber. Great neighborhood feel and they can do the classics. Gene himself is maybe the best bears trimming barber in Fremont. Also, when I bring my boys, they come home to their mom dropping her jaw at how good they look.
Haircut turned out better than I expected. They really take their time with your cut to make sure it's perfect!
Great place to get a haircut. Friendly atmosphere and great service. Wednesday's they take appointments which makes it really convenient.
No words to explain just love this place after one visit
Iv visited many barbers but this place tops it all
I enjoy the old school barber shop atmosphere,, Gene and Rick are great guys that give a solid barber cut and shave. You will get a few laughs, catch some National Geographic or sports channel, a splash of after shave and walk out brand new again.
I just left Gene's with my beard freshly trimmed; Gene's IS old school! I used to come here with my dad as a kid but now, as Gene points out, all in good fun, I don't have the need to get my haircut anymore. I usually have my wife trim my beard but I thought I'd make my return to Gene's and give him a shot. He definitely didn't disappoint! Gene even remembered me and my dad, just like he seemed to know everybody that came into the shop, greeting people by name and just very friendly. Like I said, this is an old school barbershop, very chill and friendly. If you go, don't forget your sense of humor because Gene likes to give people some good-natured teasing and he also likes to make jokes and tell funny stories. Anyways, my beard turned out just as I wanted and I'll be back for sure; thanks Gene!
These guys are the best! Not much more to say! Want a great cut? Head over!
HIghly recommended. I'm picky about the way my beard looks, and I've tried many barbershops in the Fremont area. And when I find one I like, I stick with it. Gene's is what I like. While my hair is slowly retreating from my head, I still have a beard. And I'm nearsighted, so once the glasses are off, I can't see a darn thing. So, I really have to trust the barber and what he or she does. According to Gene, when I put my glasses on after his first time trimming my beard, I said a few complimentary expletives. From that point on, I knew I had found my barber. I've been in the shop enough to realize that both Gene and Rick have loyal customers for literally decades and from as far away as Sacramento and farther. And I see dads whose hair has been cut at the shop bring in their sons to get their hair cut. David is growing into his own too.
It can get busy on Saturdays and at odd times, but the wait is worth it. Also, Wednesday is by appointment only if you need a definite time to get in and out. Lastly, until the moderators make the change, the hours on Saturday are 8 am to 4 pm.
This place ROCKS. Gene's is the REAL DEAL of barbershops complete with master cutters with great senses of humor. This is a REAL barber shop with REAL barbers, not "stylists". This place is NOT for the weak of humor so you might want to stay away if you're easily offended by real barbershop humor. A men's haircut is $15 and the jokes are free.
Great old-school, cheap and simple barber shop. Gene cut my hair and it was exactly what I wanted. Many people dont know how to do a taper and fade on the neck, but he had no trouble with it.
Straight-forward, simple barber shop. They have been doing this for 40+ years, and seem to enjoy what they do. I got my haircut from Gene- he was great. Highly recommended for those who want no-frills, simple and dependable haircut. Cost:$16 for men.
Gene has been my barber longer than I care to remember...he knows what I want without being asked. The same holds true with Rick and Duane, The shop is very clean and modern, super friendly, I always feel welcome and appreciated. I look forward to the next time.
I got my first hair cut in this barbershop 48 years ago! It was a different owner of course, my point being this is a REAL barbershop. I made the mistake of going to the mall "quick cuts" and crap like that for a few years and found myself back at a REAL barbershop, Gene's. These guys are pros! You have sports on the tv, car magazines and the best barbers in town cutting you hair, good conversation, what more could a man want?
5 stars from me!
I've been going to Gene's barber shop since I was a junior in high school, 1986! I would drive from Davis, CA, and schedule my trips home from college around my haircut. Lol. Gene's is hands down the best guys hangout for a haircut in the bay area. The only problem is that you'll get hooked and never go anywhere else. The group of guys are awesome. You're in great hands. Gary
Hands down the best barbershop in town and perhaps in the whole east bay. Has an old Oakland/SF cfeel to it. Some of The barbers have been cutting hair since the golden age of classic barbershops. They also still use a straight razor. This is definitely not your super cuts or typical salon. If you are a man, this is where you should be getting your hair cut.
This is a throwback to an earlier age. I used to go to the same barber for 11 years in central Virginia. I always got a predicable haircut in a setting Norman Rockwell would love. Gene's is a taste of ol' Virginia here on the western frontier. I walked in and found three bearded gentlemen behind the chairs and when I asked if I could get not only a haircut but a proper straight razor beard trim I was told absolutely.
Rick then proceeded to take excellent care of my hair and beard. His conversational manner was born of years of barbering many folks. It really took me back to simpler days. There are very few places you can go get a proper haircut and a shave. Many Kudo's to Rick and Gene's B.S.
P.S. They've never heard of "YELP"
I don't know about 2's or 3's or fades. I need a good haircut with scissors and a finish with a razor. A barber on your first visit asks you a few questions, looks at your hair and delivers exactly what you wanted. I visited Gene for the first time this week (Wednesday's you can get an appointment) and this is a real barber shop not someplace with glitter and no substance. Gene did a great job in 20 minutes for $15.00 ( I am a young 62). So for $20 out the door in 20 minutes with hair that looks as god the days after the first cut what is not to like. I drive 20 minutes to see Gene and my son who thinks in 2's and 3's will drive 35 minutes to see Gene and his team.
I have been getting my hair cut here for almost 10 years and realized that I haven't written a review! These guys are awesome. Besides being great at cutting hair (each of them have many, many years of experience cutting hair), they are great people.
I usually go once a month or so, and usually never have to wait very long. Another great thing is that it doesn't really matter who cuts your hair. If you ask for a certain style, each of then will turn out the same result which is pretty impressive. And since I have been going there for so long, I no longer have to tell them how to cut my hair, they just know.
I have also taken both of my kids there as well (boy and girl) and they didn't have any problems with kids hair (although the environment is more adult themed).
In conclusion, if you want a great haircut at a great price by people who are friendly and down-to-earth, come to Gene's!
Gene's Barbershop is a great place! My almost 4 year old son sees Gene but the other guys, Rick and Duane are great too! Ever since Gene fixed a bad haircut my son had, we come to him. My son adores Gene and that says a lot for a young kid when they generally don't like haircuts. The price is very reasonable and the haircuts are so good, they grow out evenly and don't look bad after a few weeks. I think my son enjoys the male atmosphere at the barbershop too. Oh and all three barbers have great humor too!
I must say barber shops aren't for all men. You cannot get your tips waxed or your roots dyed, but you can get a tight fade with a baby butt smooth shave. I am a transplant from Portland and was hoping to find at the very least a decent shop. Gene's Barber Shop is as good if not better than Rudy's or Greg's in the northwest. Keep it up guys!
If your idea of a hair cut is straight razors, the smell of Barbicide, and good banter then you go to Gene's, period.
At Gene's BS, the "BS" stands for more than just Barber Shop ~ I have been out of the Army now for 17 years. When I first got home from Italy I tried many local Barbers but kept looking until I found the right one. For me, I like a combination of good haircuts along with good personalities and a sense of humor doesn't hurt either. Since finding Gene's 17 years ago, I have not once had my hair cut anywhere else!
Gene starting cutting my son's hair when he was in diapers still.....and now he's in college. I can remember too when my hair would be ALL black as it hit the apron.....but now it's showered with white too ( DAMN-IT ) and the guys won't let me forget it either.
Seriously, all three gents are great. Gene, Rick and Duane. Good people, good conversation and good Barbers. Why go anywhere else? I'll be going there as long as they're around.
I'd been looking for a nice and simple barbershop for almost a year now. Previously I was into the modern hipster scene, full of young fashionistas with gobs of product flying off the shelves. Fast forward to now, I've taken a step back from the unnecessary hair trends and loads of wasted cash.
I've opted for the classic hair cut. Like the rest of the reviewers before me, Gene's BS is the exact fit for such. Upon walking in, you're greeted by the traditional red and blue barber pole, as well as the three gents themselves, Gene, Ricky, and Duane. Each man with his own neighborhood friendly welcome.
On my first visit this afternoon, Ricky cut my hair. He began conversing simple questions about my job and interests. But by the 5th question, we were talking about women and personal relationships. It's very apparent how well versed these guys are at their craft.
Go once for the haircut. But keep going back for the warm neighborhood feel and conversation.
Rick was busy so when Gene's chair opened up I was in. Nearly all I can say is wow. I feel like Tony the Tiger with his infamous tagline, "They'reeeeeeeeeee great!" Yes, both Gene and Rick are great. Gene's cut was one of the best I have ever had, no exceptions. All of Rick's cuts have been 5 star but if I could give Gene 6 stars, I would. He is clearly the master ninja here. I got a standing ovation by all when I arrived home. Even my nearly one year old son gave me a thumbs up! Dad was a happy camper. Thanks Gene.
This is a great place to get a no nonsense haircut. Sports stuff all over, and the guys are always ready to brighten your day with a good haircut.
These days there are too many places that hire somebody to fill a chair, and you never know what you'll get. I grew up with a barber shop nearby where the same barbers worked from the time one of them bought the place until they all retired forty years later.
Gene's is just like the old fashioned barber shop I grew up with, where people know how to cut hair and how to trim a beard. Just about the only change from what I grew up with was the lack of a strop hanging from the chairs, and straight razors with changeable blades.
There's a sign inside that says appointments only on Wednesdays, and the door says Wednesdays are by appointment only. So all other days are for walk ins, but he cut my hair on Wednesday without an appointment.
Gene and Rik are real nice guys, they are true to the barber profession, and listen to what you want. Take it from a long-haired, bearded guy; they know how to treat a customer, both with clippers and conversation. I rarely get trimmed, but the next time i do, i'm coming back.
Just went there for the first time today. I've always had terrible luck with haircuts. I had a hell of I time (I thought) telling Gene what I wanted done, and he delivered one fresh haircut. Kudos Gene. I'll see you in a few weeks.
You know that barber shop environment from the movie 'Gran Torino'? This is that type of shop. These old timers are very awesome. They know what they are doing. I definitely recommend them and will be using them every time I come.
I recently just moved in to the area to go to college, and after a few weeks the dreaded day came when I realized I needed a haircut but I didn't know where to go. I saw here on yelp all the great reviews and figured Id try out Gene's Barber shop as my first haircut place since moving to Union City.
So I have to admit, if your use to going to fancy salons then as you first pull up, you may be a little thrown off because it is a small place with only 3 booth set ups.
However, The haircut I received was exactly what I asked for and was also done in the proper amount of time. The other gentlemen before me all walked out with what I thought were great haircuts. Overall a great experience. I have officially found my new Barber shop!
We've been going to Gene's for several years now and in addition to great haircuts at a reasonable price I love the 'hometown' feel of the place and Gene, Dwayne, and Rick are all great guys. I can't recommend them enough.
There is McDonald's and there is Restaurant In McDonald's they just putting food together in Restaurant they are preparing the food, it will take time but wait is well worth it since food is delicious. Same here , there is Barber shops where they just making your hair shorter , but here they are making hair cut , it will take time , but the job is well done. This place is really old school (so old school that they even not accepting Visa or Debit cards) , but its on good side of old school, places like this become part of your life and you , like your local gym that might be smelly and rusty, but its real deal. I know i can find place for $7 with some young Barber-joker , but I'm ready to pay $17 for Barber that not texting his buddy through "whatsap" while trying to make you prettier...
Love this place! Nice guys, good sense of humor, which is always nice.
However, the big thing is that I have a full beard and mustache. Rick trimmed it exquisitely, and did an excellent job on my hair as well. I have a receding hairline and it's a bit thin in the back these days, so it's not like he had "movie star" quality hair to work with, either.
I've been going to Gene's BS for about 3 months now. This guy is the real deal. You have to understand I have a skin condition called psoriasis that affects the scalp area. So I'm always a little apprehensive about going to a new barber. I informed Gene of my skin condition, he was well informed about the nature of the condition and even offered some advice on keeping my hair at a perfect length that wouldn't reveal as much of the "troubled" area. I honestly couldn't ask for a more customer conscious barber that really takes a invested interest in his clientele. The price point is fair for the service he provides. I used to go to a barber in a city over that did probably about as good as he does, but the price point was 25 bucks and it took about 45 minutes to an hour to achieve what Gene accomplishes in...(wait for it)....15 minutes! You can't beat it.
*Just a note: Don't forget to bring cash - (I always do : ) )
Love Genes Barbershop, classic throwback barbershop feel.
Upon moving back to the bay area from SoCal I literally went to every barbershop within 20 miles of my home looking for a barber that can consistently and perfectly cut a good pomp. I couldnt find ONE person...
then I met RIck at Gene's, RIck is the man, hooks up a clean fade and a killer pomp. As well as being a cool guy for good convo. The shop is awesome the cuts are punk rock, Im a fan
I used to always get my hair cut at the standard chain salons like Supercuts and the like. However, after trying a couple of REAL barber shops in Seattle, I realized what I was missing out on.
Back in Fremont for a short while, I searched up the well regarded barber shops and decided on Gene's since it is located right by where I used to work in high school. It was not busy when I arrived on Friday morning and I was seated right away by Rick. Rick carefully listened to my request for the cut and did a great job with the fade. Exactly what I wanted and probably one of the best cuts I have ever had. He took his time, and even shaved my back/side hairlines with a straight razor! Also, some of the techniques and tools they use are only found in barber shops. (fancy shaving cream dispenser, powders, gels) Rick took his time and we had a good chat which didn't stop until I left the shop. I felt like I was treated as a regular customer.
for $21 out the door, I feel like I got a great deal. I will make it a point to get cut here each time I'm back in town!
I discovered Gene's about a year ago and was pleased with the cut. Gene, Rick and Duane all did good jobs with my cut. Good price for a cut and a classic barber experience. I enjoy the straight razor clean up at the end of the cut too. If I still lived in Fremont I'd continue patronizing this establishment.
My hair is starting to grow out and was beginning to feather at the sides so it was time to find a classic men's barber shop close to home.
Gene's totally delivered ... down to the striped pole out front, which is what I told my son indicates that this is a place for men to get a haircut. The kids barber he used to go to doesn't have one, and neither does mommies salon.
Even though we were walk-ins, we were both up in chairs within 15 minutes and the cuts were performed with skill and speed.
The strip mall that Gene's is located in is in a sad state, but Gene's is a diamond in the rough.
As we left I asked my son what he though. He smiled and said, "I liked it. Can we come here again?"
By loooking at yelp reviews I thought of giving a try for it. I found them as good as I see on Yelp.Gene and Rick are best at their work, happy about finding a barber shop having their practice in classic way and similar to what I use to see in India.
My hair cut was started by some new person finally Gene made it finish, all that took long time otherwise I would have rate them five rating. Now I know whom should I look for in my next visit,I will continue to go for Gene/Rick.
These dudes are classy.
Gene's is a true to form barber shop, in every definition and connotation. There's no frills here, the prices are up in black and white, it's a place to come in and get a solid haircut.
Rick took care of me today, was amiable and personable as he meticulously cut my hair. The man is skillfully quick and makes sure that you're satisfied, which I was.
So, like Gene's, that's it. There's no more to really say other than if you're looking for a great, no B.S. cut, Gene's is the place.
Went here on a whim to get a cut while we were visiting the area. This place is OG, forsure.
There were a few barbers working when I went in on a Saturday, I got cut by a burly old man named Rick that's been doing his thing for over 15 years.
I asked for a low and tight pomp and after showing him a picture from a previous cut, Rick instantly knew what to do and needed no further instruction to give me the cut I wanted. He told me a little of the history of Gene's, it's impressive how long they've been grinding in the same shop! The cut was clean, simply done, and you can tell these guys are experienced and skilled. He also recommended some pomades and different products to use for different styles.
Only hesitation, remember to bring cash! I paid ~$20 including tip
I'd definitely come in here again whenever I'm in the general area! Easy on the wallet, great atmosphere, friendly guys, great cut. Would easily recommend to any guy looking for an easy, no-frills cut.
I've been going to Genes for over twenty years and would not consider going anywhere else. This is an old school shop with Barbers that greet you with a warm hello and call you by name if you've been there before. They have all the cuts down to a science from me enjoying the razor clean up on my neck to my girlfriends 16 year old son enjoying his first cut at a non beauty parlor barbershop! Gene and Rick are the best in town!
Quality work, friendly guys. It does get a bit busy on the weekends, so be prepared to wait a few minutes if you're walking in.
Great service, always. Rick and Gene are both awesome. They do a great job and are very pleasant. Don't go there in a haste, its a relaxing experience to chit chat and get a haircut and shave.
I've been going here for nearly 20 years. I had my very first haircut here and I've been going to Gene's ever since. They have built an excellent relationship with their clientele. They are skilled barbers that can give you the cut that you want. The only downside is the location. The barbershop is in a run-down strip mall. I've been a happy customer for most of my life and I will continue to go there for my haircuts.
This review is for my son who had his first haircut at only 3 months old. It's a family tradition to see Rick at Gene's Barber Shop for the baby's first haircut, but usually that doesn't happen until they're at least a year old. I was a little skeptical to see how this would play out since my son was so young...I mean 3 months, he's just learning how to have some head control!
As we sat waiting (not too long) I was admiring the work of all three barbers. You can just see that it wasn't like a Super Cuts or anything of that magnitude, because they really took their time with listening to what each person wanted and doing it right. I was shocked to see them finish off with a straight razor, but that's what finished off each haircut!
When Rick called for my son's turn, he had a warm and pleasant smile that made me feel a lot more comfortable, especially being in a barber shop for the first time. My husband sat in the chair while our son sat on his knees, each with their own smock on. And YES, they had a cute little kids smock which was cute for photos:-) Rich was SOOOOOO good because he was quick, very gentle, patient, and cut our sons hair better than I imagined for a 3 month old's first haircut! Rick knew it was our son's first haircut, so during the haircut, he saved some hair for our son's keepsake.
To finish off this already wonderful experience, Rick filled out a first haircut certificate that they have there for that special memory.
We come from Tracy, and I think we'll have to come back for his next haircut because Rich was THAT good!
I mean come on...if it's got the barber pole outside, then it's got to be pretty amazing, right?!
I highly recommend this not only for first time cuts, but for any guy who really wants a good haircut. (Our grandfather has been going here for years and it's been a tradition for all the grandsons and great-grandsons!) THANKS RICK!
The art and tradition of Barber shop is alive and kicking it at this place along with American spirit. Maybe one of the best haircuts I have ever received...Rick is a gentleman and has mastered the art of barber. I enjoyed my discussion with Rick and other patrons. I'm definitely coming back to this neighborhood gem.
Have to always come and see Rick...my friends started me here and haven't looked at another barber since. Always does a good job and will continue to do so.
I just went to this shop the other day and I had, by far, one of the best barbershop experiences ever! Gene the owner was very knowledgeable and cool to be around. Rick is good dude too. Gene's awesome flattop with fenders haircut came out killer, so here's my much thanks and appreciation. The guys in this shop can do all kinds of classic cuts: pompadours, flattops, side parts etc. These are skilled barbers with old school style and class. "Highly recommended fellas!!"
Most of my life, I've been getting those 8 dollar haircuts from those Asian shops. I left with a different haircut each time. They were consistently inconsistent. I will not subject myself to these mediocre haircuts anymore!
I decided that I should spend a little more and get my hair cut exactly the way I ask. Due to the high reviews, I checked out Genes.I walk in to a warm greeting from Gene. Everyone who came in had appointments to see Gene. The other barber Rick called my name to his chair. I'm thinking "mannnn I wish Gene was cutting my hair. I mean, his name is on the door." My doubts were put to ease when Rick was done with my hair. He did exactly what I asked for and we shared lots of great stories. They have one other barber but he was on vacation.
You know this place is old school awesome when they have that red, white, and blue barber pole. They also finish you off with a straight razor! They are really great people who cut hair very well. I definitely recommend checking these guys out.
The shopping area that the barbershop is in is really run down. Don't let that fool you. I will be getting my haircuts here for quite some time now.
Reminder: This place is cash only.
I've been coming to Gene's for two years now and they've done a great job every time. Gene, Rick and Duane all uphold the highest standard of quality and are always friendly and fun. Highly recommend this place if you're looking for a real barbershop setting and cut.
Found the classic neighborhood barber shop I always wanted !
Went in for a beard trim and left exactly if not more than what I was hoping.
Gene did an awesome job.
We talked about how I wanted my beard and continued to talk throughout the whole process. He explained what was happening while he was trimming which was educating and as well as brought some peace of mind.
I wanted a full looking sharp beard but needed some work done by a professional without removing overall length - I got just that.
Lastly Gene said he enjoys cutting beards - I will be back for sure!!
After a lot of research I finally settled on going to Gene's. The Place sure does lives up to its reputation and beyond!! The shop is nice and airy and cordial. I got a fade and beard trim that changed my whole look for the better. He was meticulous in the beard trim and hair cut. Overall a wonderful experience and I am now going to Gene's for all my haircuts.
Great shop. I have been looking for another barber for while and I think I might have found my spot. Very friendly and kind. Going to give it another shot and hopefully lock in my new barber.
So had to get the pre-Christmas haircut and I'm now ready to go! Flattop is perfect, as usual and also a great beard trim!
Merry Christmas to all. Tell Gene you saw his review on YELP! It's bringing people in. Spread the word!
Friendly place to get a shave, my first time there. My dad loved it.
I would definetly go there again.
Ask for david. The best guy there.
A perfect cut
My husband has been going to this place for 5 years and he always got what he asked for. People here are good and friendly. There may sometimes be a bit of a wait but that just proves that they are good at what they do. High recommendations.
Gene's Barber shop Recommendation
My son I have been going to Gene's Barber shop for almost 10 years. They are very professional and friendly. Best quality of work.
The best barbershop ever. After moving to Fremont I was looking for a barber and finally found - it's Rick here at Gene's BBS. Me and my son coming here on a regular basis. Definitely 5 stars!!
I had gone to the same old school barber shop for over 20 years on the Peninsula, but since moving to the East Bay, I had yet to find one that was comparable. My father-in-law recommended Gene's, and it was a great experience. I walked in and was immediately greeted by Gene, and there was only a short wait, on a mid-day Wednesday afternoon. Rick cut my hair, and paid close attention to my request just to trim it up, as I'm growing it out a little bit. We had a great conversation about our dogs, wives and kids during the 20-minute cut, and when I left I was very pleased.
I learned that Gene's takes appointments on certain days, and can get very busy on Saturdays. It's worth the drive from anywhere in the Tri-Cities area or beyond.
Maybe I've found my new barber for the next 20 years!
I went here for the first time. My man, David, took care of me. Service was awesome. Everyones friendly and cool environment overall. If you guys need help with Tapers, line up, David is YOUR GUY!
Excellent service. Appointments available. Been coming here for years. Friendly atmosphere.
Fantastic customer service, talent and pricing. Good old fashioned barbershop that I highly recommend. Spent 3 years shopping around and this is finally my go to spot.
As per expectation and other reviews! First-cum-first service. All 3 are expert barbers. After a long time, someone using blades to clean the lines and not just using clippers.
I recommend! I don't know much about cutting hair and the terminology but I had David and he cut my hair exactly how I wanted it!
Where were you all my life?
After years wasted away in George's Barbershop down in old Newark, and a period of roaming aimlessly from barber to barber, I have finally found my home at Gene's.
Not only are the haircuts superb, but Gene and the other barbers are very nice, friendly, welcoming--and most of all, they can work AND talk at the same time!
I am happy to call Gene my barber!
Another recommendation for Gene's flattops. He did a great one for me. He has great technical skill and detail. Flattops aren't an easy cut, but they're one of his specialties!
Great, old school barber shop; complete with a cathode ray tube television and a Barber's pole. No bloodletting, tooth extractions, or surgeries, just great haircuts at a reasonable price. Gene and Rick are always glad you came, kind of like Cheers, but without the cold libations.
I've been getting my hair cut by the owner Gene for the past three years and have always been satisfied.
They are closed on Sundays and Wednesdays are by appointment only.
They can get really busy, especially on Saturdays. Wait times can exceed an hour at times. To the right of the entrance is a board with numbered brass tokens, grab one to secure your place in line.
Pro tip: Make an appointment for Wednesday if you don't like to wait.
As with any barber shop -- if you're new, you should get cut at least once by each person in the shop. That being said, everyone at this location is very much capable of giving you what you want. Whether it is a ducktail, crew cut, or high and tight -- these are the ONLY guys you want near your hair.
I've had every barber here cut my hair, but I have decided to continue getting cuts by Rick. This is not a statement about the other barbers' skills. I go to Rick because, not only is he a capable barber, but he has the same interests that I do outside of getting my hair cut there. Essentially, when I look for a barber, I don't look for someone to be completely quiet and cut my hair while I struggle to stay awake. You won't get that here. Whether its local sports, motorcycles, classic cars, or just exchanging stories, you'll be able to get a great cut and not notice the time go by.
My son's first haircut was with Gene, he is now 14 years old. Always my favorite part of being a father is getting a haircut with my son. Well it has been a while and now back to my favorite place, now need to get my son to get back to our favorite place.
A barbershop is more than just getting a haircut. It should be an experience. I recently moved to the area, and after having a few haircuts at an inexpensive (but good) hair styling place, I decided I needed to go to a barbershop.
The experience started with going in and having a seat while listening to the old-timers talk about Deadliest Catch and their own fishing trips, and I knew that I was in a real barbershop.
David (the young barber) was my barber. We exchanged small talk, and when I asked him about becoming a barber, he described the examinations and tests he took. I could tell he knew his craft.
The haircut itself was outstanding. David put an incredible amount of time and detail into making sure the fade was perfect. He did an amazing job giving me the haircut I asked for. And of course, he finished off the haircut with the straight edge razor.
The haircut was an extremely reasonable $19 before tip, and the barbershop experience ended with a handshake and a business card from David.
David Chavarria is a really good barber. He is a fresh new barber that can do all styles. He is still considerable new to Gene's, so he is still building his clientele. I think he is great addition to a very well established barbershop. If you're looking for a barber, I highly recommend David Chavarria.
I have been coming here for almost 2 years now for hair cut. May be bit costlier than other regular hair cut places, but it is worth it. They are never in hurry to cut hair, and dont mess up at all.
David ( new guy) is good along with Rick and Gene.
Another great flat top! Thanks Gene. Merry Christmas to all and to all a great hair cut!!!
I'm in the Marine Corps. Been getting haircuts every Sunday for the last 6 years. Rick did such a good job I had to post about it.
Good technique with an at home feel to the place. A total of five people were coming and going when I walked in and he knew all their names.
Come for a good haircut but stay for friendly service and a good conversation. Rick is real supportive of his troops so he gave me my first cut for free. Needless to say ill be back.
